"Memorizing Your Face 2"
Acrylic on Canvas
30x24"
March 2008
From The Artist:
In July of 2006, I was nursing my son who was six months old and I received an immediate vibe to paint the moment. I sat there, no camera handy, and studied his face - making references of where lines met, angles and such.
As soon as he was asleep in his bed, I rushed to my studio and created the beginnings of the painting Memorizing Your Face (see below).
Unfortunately, in the rush to get this image down, the only substrate I could put my hands on was a gessoed piece of plexiglass. I learned later that this was not a suitable painting surface, as the painting was soon scratched.
The other day, I was looking through my portfolio with a collector and he landed on that painting. Seeing it with new eyes I realized I had to paint that moment again, infusing my style of course.
I toyed with the idea of naming this Remembering Your Face (since my big two year old no longer nurses) but in the end, this painting truly was born out of studying his face in order to memorize the moment, so the name stayed the same.
