Katie m. Berggren painting: Carry On

"Carry On"
Acrylic on Canvas
24x30"
April 2008

From The Artist:
I started out knowing I wanted an image that was very white, crisp, clear and clean at first glance. Something pure. These two figures – they spoke sadness to me from the beginning. The mother and child spoke of something deep and soulful and this could be partly why I was inspired to do a blue under painting. While driving one day, after this painting was in the works in the studio, I played Tim McGraw’s song Carry On (“…what don’t kill us makes us strong…”) and instantly knew that that was the title. The mystery is attractive to me, and the tactile softness.

I can put several stories or bios behind this painting to fill the need for it to have a story, but none seem to fit perfectly – for the first time, this painting seems to have evolved from an unknown story, truthfully, Carry On acts as if it was created for someone or some story that I don’t even know yet – is that possible?
