Katie m. Berggren painting: Hand Me Down

"Hand Me Down"
Acrylic on Canvas
24x30"
June 2008

From The Artist:
Watching our children take lessons from us (many times we don’t even realize we are teaching, they are so embedded in us) and in-turn replay moments as though they are the parent, can be a great reward. I believe that as we teach our children with the love and guidance that they require, we are also setting up their future relationships with their children. Titling this painting was tricky – however, I want to say that lessons in love are handed down and it just so happens that one of my dolls from my very young days (Melinda) has been handed down to my boys and now “lives” a new fulfilling life as baby Riley. My intent here is Mother to Son, to add a new dimension to the child taking care of a doll, but I realize this child, like baby Melinda/Riley can be seen as either boy or girl!
