From The Artist:
I was recently captivated by Mary Cassatt’s painting “The Maternal Kiss”, where the pressing of faces, cheeks and skin is so luscious.
Each day when I pick up a brush and squeeze out a blob of paint, I’m prepared to learn something new, and to be taken on a new journey – I wish I had the energy to document them all.
In a sort of backwards way, I discovered the inspiration of Mary Cassatt (1844-1926) – in stead of being inspired to paint by a movement or artist, I decided after years of painting and feeling so strongly about my purpose in doing so, that I would find someone who must have felt the same way that I do about painting and the subject of mother and child. Her paintings have been recently eye-opening for me, in helping me to strengthen my belief that structure and composition is very important, but also to realize that every painting doesn’t have to have a hidden message – many can literally be beautiful moments snatched from everyday life.
