"Once the composition is outlined, I lay down layers of color, stacking paint over and over til the figure is flawless and plain with a moon-like simple face. I love the raised edges - as though you can peel the figure from the board.
She's plain and simple - a nose, a chin, and eyelid and a confined and pressed body. She is a blank canvas that began as an intended figure of sadness and restraint, but is beginning to show signs of a peaceful finale - based upon my current emotional state.
Glazes of skin come next - she screams for purple - like flower petals: fresh and new, unfurled, fleshy.
Yes, she's becoming peaceful - more than planned. Yes, I see a smile forming where a grimace was intended. Yes, I'm happier tonite than I was when she was first born into my sketchbook. She's shy, she's warm, she's confined - but not without peace."
