"Serenade"
Acrylic on Cradled Board
24x32"
November 2007
From The Artist:
I asked myself while working on Serenade and Tuck: why the cloth at the waists? Am I being chicken and censoring myself? Hell no. My paintings are about skin and bodies and the way 2+ figures can mesh, fold and tuck together. The way skin touches skin, color bounces, essences intertwine – but because these are not lone nudes, I see a reason to ask myself why they would be bare naked – together?
The movement and beauty of the term “serenade” enticed me as soon as the word entered my head while working on this painting. It stuck and was a perfect fit!
Are these two being serenaded by the breeze? Or is Mama truly serenading her fuzzy-headed baby, as originally planned. Personally, I love to bury my face in my littlest ones glowing curls.
Another painting on deep-cradled gessobord (see left) with unstained 2" Oak edges.
